Whitney – Whitney Houston Tribute
Latraia Savage brings the songs of Whitney Houston to the Arts Garage stage for a live tribute on Friday night in downtown Delray Beach. Backed by a full band, the show moves through the big ballads and upbeat hits that made Houston one of the best-selling singers of all time.
Doors and seating are in the intimate Pineapple Grove venue, so every seat is close to the stage. Tickets run from $56.50 to $61.50, and the show runs from 8 to 10 p.m.
“Last of the Red Hot Lovers” at Willow Theatre
Curtain Call Playhouse brings Neil Simon’s comedy Last of the Red Hot Lovers to the Willow Theatre for opening night on Friday, November 6. The play follows Barney Cashman, a 47-year-old married father of three who decides, in the middle of a midlife crisis, to try having an affair – three times, with three different women, with each attempt going wrong in its own way. The production runs 120 minutes with two intermissions and is rated R. Tickets are $25 per person, with a $23 group rate for four or more and a $20 season ticket price. Additional performances run November 7, 8, 13, 14 and 15.
West Palm Beach Antiques Festival
Hundreds of dealers fill the fairgrounds expo hall for three days of browsing, with furniture, jewelry, art, vintage clothing, and collectibles spread across more than 300 booths. Early birds get first pick on Friday morning, then general admission runs through Sunday afternoon, with free parking at the fairgrounds.
The Ladies of Simone bring Nina Simone to Arts Garage
Sarah Gracel and Deana Butler-Rahming step into Nina Simone’s songbook for an evening at Arts Garage. Their program reaches across her career, from I Loves You Porgy and The Look of Love to My Baby Just Cares for Me, To Be Young, Gifted and Black, and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.
It is a tribute built around the voice and the songs, not a history lecture – expect the music to do most of the talking.
Art on the Square returns to Old School Square
For two days, the grounds at Old School Square become an open-air gallery. More than 60 artists selected for the show will display original work for sale, from paintings to other fine art pieces, while painters work live around the campus as part of the Art Moves You En Plein Air program.
Stick around on Sunday afternoon: at 3 p.m., the crowd gathers to celebrate the winners of that weekend painting exhibition.
Good to know: Admission is free, both to the show and to the museum, according to the organizer listing.
First Friday Art Walk takes over downtown Delray Beach
Friday night in downtown Delray is built for wandering. Galleries and cultural spaces open their doors for the monthly art walk, so you can drift from one exhibition to the next, talk with the people behind the work, and catch live entertainment as you go.
At Old School Square, the Cornell Art Museum is showing four exhibitions this month. The subjects range from the Everglades to nature-inspired painting, plus a printmaking retrospective. Arts Garage is also showing two exhibitions to kick off the evening.
Good to know: Times and details can change, so check the organizer listing before you go.
